One of the cabinetry lines we have on our showroom floor is KraftMaid Cabinetry. KraftMaid was started back in 1969 as a one-man custom cabinetry shop in Independence, Ohio. It quickly grew to be one of the leading manufacturers of “semi-custom” cabinets in the U.S. because all their cabinets are built to order for each customer. As the company continued to grow it moved its operations to Cleveland, Ohio. Once there the company grew tenfold. In 1990 Masco Corporation of Taylor, Michigan acquired KraftMaid Cabinetry. They also purchased the Merillat Cabinetry line as well (we also have the Merillat line on our showroom floor too). This made Masco the leader in cabinetry manufacturing because KraftMaid Cabinetry was the leader and Merillat was the second largest. Many improvements have been being made to the manufacturing of the KraftMaid Cabinetry and one of them is the “Kitchen at a Time” strategy. This means that in that specific facility they are building one kitchen at a time and then getting is boxed and loaded on a truck for delivery. This ensures that that customers product is given full attention to detail to make sure it is exactly what they want and are expecting. A few other manufacturing sites were built to keep up with the great demand for the KraftMaid cabinetry. This resulted in approximately 10,000 cabinets being built a day between all their sites. By the end of the 1990’s KraftMaid had expanded their cabinetry to not only the kitchen but also the bathroom, laundry room, living room, office and mudrooms. They also created a Passport line for the elderly and handicap to make it easier for those customers to be more independent. Fast forward to today and KraftMaid is still the leader in “semi-custom” cabinetry and with all the new innovations in their building processes as well as the custom options they offer it is predicted they will continue to be the leader in cabinetry for many years to come.
